Introducing Inclusive Approaches

We are excited to introduce a new Behaviour Change initiative, Inclusive Approaches

Led by by Racial Justice Consultant, Lynette Nabbosa, and Senior Behavioural Intervention Designer, Honica Sharma, and the indelible expertise of the wider Behaviour Change team.

Inclusive Approaches is our specialist team with unique skills and extensive experience across behaviour change, justice and inclusivity, to help you design and deliver innovative and impactful approaches to tackling inequality that include marginalised groups who have been left out of the conversation for too long.

At Inclusive Approaches, we acknowledge behaviour change is not a ‘quick fix’ nudge, or a way to ignore systemic issues and push the problem onto the individual. Whilst we also take a holistic and systemic view of issues at play, true inclusion requires investment. A recognition that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work for pressing issues we’re dealing with like the climate crisis, water scarcity, debt, and more.

As a critical friend, we will challenge organisations to go beyond equality statements or diversifying comms, to deliver meaningful approaches to tackling inequalities.

If you work with us, together we will ensure that the work you put out into the world speaks to, invites and empowers all communities, including those who are most marginalised. An inclusive approach will:

  1. Focus on people and not concepts: Understanding lived experiences and sharing stories that appeal to people’s shared sense of decency and fairness.
  2. Use inclusive framings: Avoiding ‘us vs them’ frames and demonstrating the benefits of positive action for the whole of society.
  3. Think about messengers and coalitions: Broadening the diversity of behaviour change messengers and points of contact.
